Sherdog Smashes: Askar’s Revenge

Everyone who calls themselves a self-respecting fight fan should follow a number of noteworthy accounts on social media. Whether for combat sports news, wild happenings or bonkers highlights, there is something for everybody. We want to give you the latter of those three in this series titled “Sherdog Smashes.” What is it? A feast of carnage worthy of those seated on the “Just Bleed” throne.

With no UFC or Professional Fighters League coming up this week, fight fans will have to find something else to occupy their time. We whet your appetite with a slew of sensational stoppages, with one special opener in honor of the recently defeated headliner of UFC Fight Night 257, also called UFC Shanghai.

We present Exhibit A to instill or diminish confidence in Mingyang Zhang. You know who the other guy is.

Of all the big kaboshes on display this week, this one might have the most exciting back-and forth preceding it. It may also be one of the few mid-tier results our dear readers witnessed on Friday before staying up all night. Nejra Repp and Lidia Helena toed the line on the early LFA 215 prelims, producing an extraordinary exchange contained in this video clip that should be seen and not explained.

While that last one was pretty dramatic, this next result is a bit more straightforward. Four increasingly devastating knees ripped open Juan Chavana’s face and broke his fighting spirit, courtesy of Charles Woods’ pinpoint accuracy. The third one did the job on this Fury FC 108 prelim, but why not make it academic with one more?

America, F yeah. What screams red, white and blue more than consensual face punching and chain-wrestling? This pro-am card in Columbus, Ohio, which oddly enough had Brian Rogers of Bellator MMA fame coming back after an eight-year “retirement” to headline it—he won, by the way. On the amateur undercard, Montana Roberts trucked John Davis with a right hand that forced jacked ref Gary Copeland to get in some cardio rather than just pumping his glamour muscles.

This was technically a week ago and should fall out of our range, especially for a Belarusian show put on by the Fight Nights Global team under new management. With only one decision in 12 fights, happenings were predictably regional in nature and violent as heck. In this massive lightweight showcase between two gladiators making their professional debuts, Ilya Fomochkin displayed that experience is not everything by icing Mekhrob Mirzorakhmatov with an elbow that would make Matt Brown blush.

We love muay thai in little gloves. What else takes place in 4oz gloves? MMA, which is what One Championship pretends it still offers at a high level. This is anything but, the curtain jerker on a muay thai show in Lumpinee Stadium. It doesn’t exactly reek of household names. That said, Jean Carlos Pereira crushed Sheagh Dobbin in what was definitely not a mismatch with one punch to keep his undefeated record alive. Are you missing out on the muay thai magic? Don’t worry, we got you there too.

Always the bridesmaid and never the bride is Belgium’s Jamal Ben Saddik, who has come up short time and time again when it matters most. The skyscraping “Goliath” can hit like a truck and is often involved in the title picture, but he cannot seal the deal—or he fails a post-fight drug test. Case in point: Levi Rigters rearranging his guts with a magnificent spinning back kick to boot him out of Glory’s Last Man Standing tournament.

At the 14th installment of the Most Valuable Prospects boxing event series, 4-0 145er Pedro da Silva Conceicao met up with Renny Viamonte Mastrapa for cookies and some punch. He only got the latter.
